Education for democracy

Objectives:

  • To encourage public participation in local governance and service delivery.
  • Reaching communities with accurate information so that they can influence local government structures and act to ensure service delivery in their own areas.
  • Training community-based trainers to reach people in targeted areas on how to use information above and create lobby groups in rural, farm and church communites.
  • Monitoring councilor’s service delivery identifying gaps, connecting them with communities and resources for capacity building.
  • Mobilizing churches to hold interfaith pastoral services and use church services to educate.
  • Mobilizing youth-ID campaign and voter registration and workshops to motivate youth to contribute to local government structures and events.



HIV/AIDS

Objectives:

To promote maximum participation of churches in Kwazulu Region in pastoral care for HIV/AIDS victims as continuous awareness raising, education and care. Assists communities to work out ways of intervening, assist them to molize to “fix” the problem.

“Community mobilization” is about us raising awareness and stimulating communities to commit themselves and engage in concerted action so that they build a better community with participating citizens. The ultimate goal is to encourage and support communities affected by problems to take action and change things.

Resource Mobilization:

KRCC helps communities to mobilize adequate resources.

  • Our Goelama HIV/AIDS programme seeks to support communities, local structures and their local initiative, and to strengthen local resources for the benefit of orphans and vulnerable children.
  • We support income generating projects initiated by local structures. We support what communities want to do for themselves as a way of solving their problems.

 



Economic Empowerment Program

Objectives:

  • To develop the networking processes that will ensure effective poverty eradication and economic justice program.
  • Creating a platform where relevant role players are invited to discuss economic justice.
  • Ensuring effective networking on economic empowerment in the region.
  • Developing a database directory. This directory consists of role players able to influence economic development in rural areas.
  • Setting up a poverty alleviate fund that contributes to the rural development program.
  • The initiative attempts local fund raising for rural development and raises awareness on the plight of the poor.

 



Gender and Masculinity in the context of HIV/AIDS

Goal:

To transform attitudes, behaviors and beliefs of men so that they rethink the traditional conceptualization of manhood and masculinity in order to develop a community where men are more responsible and contribute towards the mitigation of the impact of HIV/AIDS.

Objectives:

  1. To mobilize men in leadership roles to debate and influence others men on issues related HIV, AIDS and gender so that they are able to contribute to solutions in a HIV and AIDS environment.
  2. To build the capacity of faith based people by developing a theology of Gender with an emphasis on transforming men to be more caring.
  3. To provide aids and gender education to youth, clergy and traditional leadership
  4. To work with community members to take up issues related to gender and children’s rights
  5. To strengthen organizational development by improving monitoring and Evaluation system in order to better the planning and implementation process.
